... now when I go back into the Ricoh Theta application on my PC, and try to check the firmware version, I just get an error message saying
"Failed to optain camera information."
"When connected to PC, disconnect and then reconnect to the PC.(FUPE0000002,FUP)"
Unplugged, replugged multiple times, took pictures and transfered them to the PC, used the new HDR Render setting (works nicely!), rebooted my PC, etc. Still getting the error message. Before the firmware upgrade, it would report the current version.
Camera works great, but now I'm concerned I won't be able to perform any future firmware upgrades.
Anyone else experiencing this?

I had the same problem. Next update would not install.
I disconnect the camera from USB
Turn on the camera with te button.
Connect the camera with USB.
Do the firmware update

The original firmware (1.10 or so) seems to have problems with some PC's USB ports.
The theta was not availabe on any of the ports of my desktop.
Luckily I could try connecting the cam to a laptop. There the cam was accessible for update (to 1.50). And now the cam is also recognized on my former desktop.
Hope that helps anybody...
